After completing my Master's degree in Comparative Media Studies at MIT in the spring of 2007, I stayed on as the Communications Director for both the Comparative Media Studies program and the newly-formed Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game Lab. One of my first tasks (after designing the lab's logo) was to create a website to host the games and other research projects the lab would create.
Working closely with US Executive Director Philip Tan, I created a site to match the lab's combination of serious study and playful thinking. The colors chosen matched the GAMBIT logo, a vibrant orange set off by a crisp cyan with touches of a rich burgundy as an accent color. Movable Type was used to power the site's content management system, enabling the lab to manage separate sections for the blog and research publications, and a deep archival architecture was created to house records of all of the lab's students and games. Video clips and video podcasts were hosted by YouTube and MIT's Tech TV platform.
Gambit.mit.edu was built using HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Movable Type, Flickr, YouTube, MIT Tech TV, and Adobe Photoshop.
